What is Jiu Jitsu?

  • Jiu Jitsu is a martial art of Japanese roots, and while the secular origins of jiu jitsu are hard to identify, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art developed in the 1920s by Carlos Gracie and his brothers

  • Deriving from Judo, it is self-defense oriented while also incorporating modern combat techniques

  • BJJ focuses on leveraging one’s body weight and manipulating an opponent’s force against themself to effectively control and defeat an adversary

  • Jiu jitsu techniques revolve around using superior leverage, grip, joint locks, and position to control, neutralize, and overcome opponents of greater size, strength, and aggression, as well as armed attackers

  • Being an affiliate school means Ronin’s coaches exhibit and uphold the standards of BJJ training practices, including:

BJJ the Ronin-Warrior Way

Both beginner and advanced adults have the opportunity to learn jiu jitsu techniques during our BJJ and No-GI classes

  • Traditional GI keeps with the philosophies, techniques, and traditions of BJJ, and incorporates uniform manipulation to gain control over opponents and force submissions

  • No-GI grappling, while still upholding the art and customs of BJJ, modifies these traditional techniques to better emphasize practical, more modern self-defense situations

  • During open mat, members have the chance to practice their grappling in either GI or No-GI
